Chapter 7

Chapter 7 Bankruptcy is commonly known to lawyers as a liquidating bankruptcy (liquidation) or personal bankruptcy. This is the most common type of bankruptcy and under this process, you may be entitled to a fresh start and many if not all of your debts could be discharged.  The types of debts which are dischargeable under a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy include credit cards, non-secured debts, medical bills, some types of judgments, and others.  You will need to consult with your lawyer to determine each type of debt which may be dischargeable.  Generally, you can exempt assets used for your support and maintenance such as clothing, furniture, and household goods. You may also be able to exempt your automobiles and your home with the help of our attorneys.

Some debts which are not dischargeable include alimony and child support obligations, student loans and some types of taxes. You would need to discuss with your attorney what debts you have which may not be dischargeable.
