Michael DeDecker

I am one of those guys who took some time trying to figure out what I wanted to be in life, but once I found it, I knew that this was exactly what I wanted to do with my career. I am an idealist and I strongly believe in defending and supporting our rights as human beings and I do so with high energy and dedication. On my first day of law school, the Dean of our school asked this question, “What type of lawyer do you want to be?” I responded that I wanted to be a fair and just lawyer that balances mercy with justice and understands the importance of maintaining the integrity of the courts while also defending my client’s rights and interests in a well-prepared and zealous determination. I believe that it is my duty to represent all of my clients in a professional, yet compassionate, manner and you will always be treated with all due respect.

I received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology at the University of Utah, while also taking Chemistry and Physics courses as well. From there, I moved out to Sacramento, CA and went to The University of the Pacific’s McGeorge School of Law, where I received a Doctorate of Law degree, while also specializing in Intellectual Property Law (including Patent, Trademark, Copyright, Sports and Entertainment Law). During law school, I interned at the Public Defender’s Office in the Juvenile department and began my career as a defense attorney.

After law school, I have worked at a Worker’s Compensation and Civil Litigation firm representing clients who have been injured on the job or have been involved in a car accident. I have represented several injured Californians and ensured that they receive their just compensation as a result of their being injured as a result of another individuals’ negligence. I have also represented several individuals who have been involved in Real Estate (Landlord/Tenant) transactions that went bad and resolved every one successfully for my client.

For the last four years, I have been working at Dependency Associates of Sacramento, where I served as court-appointed counsel for indigent individuals who have had their children removed from their care by the Department of Health and Human Services (aka Child Protective Services). While there, I have been the lead Attorney on over 200 trials and have won or resolved satisfactorily in my clients best interest on a majority of those cases. I have also been in charge of the Dependency Drug Court proceedings for my office and have had extensive training in all manners related to substance abuse and treatment.

I really look forward to meeting you and helping you feel comfortable with understanding your rights and what to expect from the judicial system. I promise that I will do so with compassion and respect while maintaining my ethical duties to my clients and the courts.
